Dear Two Cents,
I’m getting married next spring to a wonderful man who happens to have more than $100,000 in student loan debt.
Whether you’re dating, engaged, newly married, or have been together for decades, one truth remains: love and money are deeply connected.
Here’s my story…
Early in my marriage, my husband and I struggled to find our rhythm with money. We had love, but when it came to combining finances, there was no one-size-fits-all advice that truly fit us. I searched everywhere for guidance, but most of what I found felt either too generic or too rigid to apply to our unique situation.
So, I turned to the skills I know best — my training and experience as a mental health therapist — and began creating strategies tailored to our relationship and financial personalities. Our approach wasn’t always “traditional,” but it worked. We found ways to combine our finances that reduced stress, built trust, and still honored who we are as individuals.
